Lamborghini has unveiled its latest product, the Urus SE, marking the brand’s foray into the plug-in hybrid segment with its renowned Super SUV. The Urus SE made its debut at the Volkswagen Group Media Night and was later showcased at the Auto China Beijing 2024.
The Urus SE is powered by a re-engineered 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with a robust electric motor, generating a combined output of 789 hp and 950 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 312 km/h, making it the fastest production car in its segment.
The plug-in hybrid system includes a 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, enabling the Urus SE to travel over 60 kilometres on electric power alone at speeds up to 130 km/h. This hybrid setup significantly reduces emissions as compared to the traditional Urus models.
In terms of design, the Urus SE incorporates several aerodynamic enhancements, including a new floating-design hood, a redesigned front bumper, and matrix LED headlights. At the rear, it features a new diffuser and spoiler, which improve downforce by 35 per cent compared to previous models. These changes not only enhance the vehicle's performance but also its visual appeal, maintaining Lamborghini’s aggressive yet luxurious aesthetic.
The interior of the Urus SE is equally impressive, featuring a larger 12.3-inch central touchscreen with updated graphics, redesigned air vents, and dashboard coverings. Lamborghini offers extensive customization options through its Ad Personam program, with multiple body color choices and interior combinations, allowing owners to personalize their SUVs to their preferences.
Technologically, the Urus SE is equipped with advanced systems like the new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system and an electronic rear differential. These systems enhance driving dynamics by providing optimal power distribution and improved traction on various surfaces.
The Urus SE offers several new drive modes tailored to its hybrid capabilities. In addition to the existing Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia, and Terra modes, it includes EV Drive, Hybrid, Recharge, and Performance modes. These settings optimize the vehicle's performance and efficiency, adjusting parameters such as throttle response, steering weight, and suspension settings based on the selected mode.
With the introduction of the Urus SE, Lamborghini continues to push the boundaries of performance and luxury in the SUV market while taking significant steps towards electrification and sustainability. It is expected to hit showrooms globally by the end of 2024, representing a major milestone in Lamborghini's journey towards a more sustainable future.
